Athos Bulcao is native of Rio de Janeiro and was born on July 2nd 1918. Bulcao’s family had an interest in the arts, especially theater and music. At the age of four Athos Bulcao began to awaken to the drawings.<\/p>

Athos was friends with some of the most important modern Brazilian artists, the biggest responsible for your training, among them Vinicius de Moraes, Jorge Amado, Fernando Sabino, Manuel Bandeira and Enrico Bianco, who introduced him to Burle Marx. At the age of 21, his friends introduced him to Portinari, with whom he worked as an Assistant in the Mural of Saint Francis of Assisi in Pampulha.<\/p>

In 1943, Athos Bulcao met Oscar Niemeyer and, in 1955, they began working together, when they designed the external tiles for the Hospital Sul America, currently Hospital da Lagoa in Rio de Janeiro. The projects of Brasilia began in 1957 and, in August 1958, Athos moved to Brasilia with Oscar Niemeyer and his team.<\/p>

The art of Athos Bulcao is admired by the general public, not those that attend museums and galleries, but those who come in contact with his work when going around Brasilia, a city whose concrete is full of shapes drawn by Bulcao. The Sculptural Wall, for example, can be admired by regulars and visitors to the Chamber of Deputies in Brasilia.<\/p>

The artist died on July 31st 2008, at the age of 90.<\/p>
